Is a luxury car with sedan body that was manufactured between 1972 and 1980. It receives the S-Class designation for the first time and incorporates safety features such as a padded interior, a stiffer passenger compartment, a fuel tank protected against collisions and a safety wheel. In addition to the independent suspension on all four wheels and brake discs, the passive safety systems were improved, being one of the first vehicles to incorporate the ABS system and the turbo diesel engines. It highlights the limited series 450 SEL 6.9 which was the first production car to incorporate an electronic ABS system for the four wheels as optional, also having a self-leveling hydropneumatic suspension system. The 300 SD was the first mass-produced passenger car that uses a turbo diesel engine. The 450 SE was awarded as the European car of the year in 1974. Different versions were equipped with gasoline and diesel engines.
