About the Mercedes-Benz M-Class W164

Introduced in 2005 as the second generation of the M-Class, the Mercedes-Benz W164 replaced the W163's separate-frame construction with a unitary body. This change improved on-road handling, ride comfort and the integration of safety and driver-assistance systems.

The series combined permanent 4MATIC all-wheel drive with independent suspension and a range of petrol, CDI and AMG engines. Depending on version and market, it could also feature AIRMATIC air suspension and additional off-road equipment with functions developed for driving away from paved roads.

The model revision presented in 2008 changed the exterior design, interior and various technical and electronic elements. These differences, together with the range of engines and configurations available, make it important to identify the vehicle's exact production stage before selecting its documentation.
