About the Mercedes-Benz R-Class W251 and V251

Introduced in 2005, the Mercedes-Benz R-Class established a vehicle concept described as the Grand Sports Tourer. Its design combined characteristics of a luxury saloon, an estate and a multi-purpose vehicle, with a spacious interior and several passenger and luggage configurations.

The series was available in standard-wheelbase W251 and long-wheelbase V251 forms, together with petrol and diesel engines, automatic transmission and 4MATIC all-wheel-drive versions. Depending on market and equipment, it could feature several rows of seats, air suspension and a power-operated tailgate.

The major redesign presented in 2010 substantially changed the front section, equipment and part of the engine range. Differences in body length, seating layout and production stage make careful version identification necessary when selecting a manual.
