About the Mercedes-Benz S-Class W140

The W140 S-Class was introduced in 1991 as the successor to the W126. Its development prioritised comfort, safety, noise insulation and stability through a large body, a new suspension architecture and numerous electrical and electronic systems.

The family included standard-wheelbase W140 saloons, long-wheelbase V140 versions and C140 coupés. The range offered six- and eight-cylinder engines and, for the first time in a production Mercedes-Benz passenger car, the M120 V12 used in the 600 models.

Its features included double-pane side windows, power-assisted door and boot closing, parameter steering and different suspension-control systems. In 1993, the order of the commercial model names changed, turning designations such as 500 SEL into S 500 long wheelbase. These differences should be considered when selecting the appropriate documentation.
