About the Mercedes-Benz E-Class W124

The 124 Series was introduced in 1984 as the successor to the W123. Its development combined an aerodynamically efficient body with advances in safety, comfort, efficiency and driving behaviour, establishing a new benchmark for Mercedes-Benz mid-size cars.

The family included W124 saloons, S124 estates, C124 coupés, A124 cabriolets and long-wheelbase V124 versions. This variety of bodies was accompanied by petrol and diesel engines, manual and automatic transmissions, 4MATIC versions and different electronic systems depending on production period and market.

In 1993, the range officially adopted the E-Class name and reversed the order of its commercial model designations: names such as 300 E became E 300. This transition, together with successive equipment and mechanical updates, makes it important to identify each version correctly before selecting its documentation.
