About the Mercedes-Benz SLK R170

Introduced in 1996, the Mercedes-Benz SLK R170 was a compact two-seat roadster combining sporting character with everyday usability. Its defining feature was the electrohydraulically operated Vario retractable hardtop, which transformed the car from an enclosed coupe into an open roadster.

The rear-wheel-drive series was offered with a range of four- and six-cylinder engines, including supercharged Kompressor versions. The range was headed by the SLK 32 AMG, which added a supercharged V6 engine and specific changes to the transmission, brakes, suspension and equipment.

The model revision introduced in 2000 updated the exterior design, passenger compartment and various technical components. Differences between vehicles produced before and after this revision make it important to check the year, engine and equipment before selecting the corresponding manual.
