About the Mercedes-Benz A-Class W168

Introduced in 1997, the Mercedes-Benz W168 established the A-Class and marked the brand's entry into the compact-car segment. Its front-wheel-drive layout and innovative sandwich-floor structure combined small exterior dimensions with a spacious interior and a safety concept developed to Mercedes-Benz standards.

Interior versatility was one of its defining characteristics. The rear seats could be folded or removed to adapt the available space for different passenger and luggage requirements. The range included petrol and diesel engines, several equipment lines and, from 2001, a long-wheelbase variant identified as the V168.

The 2001 model revision introduced changes to the front design, interior, equipment and numerous technical components. Because of these modifications and the variety of versions produced, the model, engine and production stage should be checked before selecting the corresponding manual.
